Mount Rushmore

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the completion of Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.

When he began construction on the 14-year endeavor that was Mount Rushmore, controversial sculptor Gutzon Borglum was an active member of the Ku Klux Klan. He would later deny involvement with the racist group to preserve his reputation.

Rushmore's location in the Black Hills was seized from the Lakota tribe by the US government. In 1971, members of the American Indian Movement led an occupation of the monument, renaming it "Mount Crazy Horse."

Some old monotypes I did in college.
